For those persons who are willing consider alternative or holistic healing and therapies, these three tapes can provide a constructive, positive and interesting approach to caring for one's health as well one's spirit.

AIDS: A Positive Approach presents the listener with two perspectives.
Holly in concert
The first side
is a combination consciousness-raising/self-actualization exercise, designed to aid in the release of the mental "baggage" which each of us carries, regarding disease, guilt, and our mental and physical health. The second side of the tape is a series of guided imagery healing exercises--again, designed to release and heal. A fascinating tape in terms of content and philosophy, it is also a useful supplement to Hay's book, You Can Heal Your Life.

Massari's tapes are also designed Co help PWAS conquer certain aspects syndrome. The hypno-sleep tape, with stereo New Age music, contains audible messages designed to reinforce positive and alternative healing techniques and perspectives.

Even so, it was fun to see her a little off guard, telling perhaps one too stories and straying from many the set list to do a few requests.
With no introduction, Holly Near walked on stage Sunday night, Jan. 31 at dingy Peabody's Downunder and into started right an a capella rendition of "Mountain " Song. It certainly wasn't the slick Carnegie Hall performance Near's been known to give. For her first two songs she just stood there, with a dull look in her eye, staring at the floor. The woman was clearly tired. She warmed a bit as the night went up on, but this was not the polished Holly Near of Michigan Women's Music Festival of like this happened all night.

Those worried Near might forego her politics with a mainstream producer, need not have spent the energy. Even though the event was not sign language interpreted, she was right out there talking about Central America, Ronald Reagan and the March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights.

"There's one group of people get nervous when I'm they hear lesbian, and another group who gets nervous when they hear I'm not. That's clearly not the issue," she proclaimed right before going into crowd-pleasing "Perfect Night."
The audience was pretty typical for a Near show, quite a few lesbians and quite a few straight couples. About 200 were at the 7:30 p.m. and less at the later show.
show
The show was short, just barely over an hour long, but the audience was invited to stay for the show if they wished.

I was touched to see she's singing the "Great Peace March" and even introduced it with a from the 1986 march.

"Don't
Even though this was a Hold Back" tour, she only sang songs from the new album. She did do a few love the
songs for the romantics in crowd, including "Don't Hold Back", "West Virginia Friend", and "Once or Twice" by audience request.

She ended with Cris Williamnson's "Waterfall" and sing-along "Singing for our Lives" a song she wrote after the murder of gay politician Harvey Milk.

draw seemed that Holly didn't any different a crowd by going to the mainstream producers, but the boys who produced her may have just become Holly near fans. One of them said he's produced heavy metal, Cindy Lauper, Ricky Nelson, but he's never seen a performer like Near.
